I discovered skating in 1995 when I rolled on the skater’s dance circle in
Central Park, NY. This inspired me to collaborate with the Inline Club of Boston
and create “SkateJam,” an indoor freestyle skating event that has just
celebrated its 10th birthday. I’ve been an active member of the Inline Club of
Boston since 1995 and have been on National Skate Patrol for three years.
My inline teaching career has included providing corporate skating lessons
for various companies in the Boston area, and training counselors and teachers
to teach skating. Last summer I hosted Camp Rollerblade for kids, and directed
an after school skating program. In addition, I’ve provided group and private
lessons to students from ages 5 to 75 during the summer months for the last five
years. Most recently, I’ve collaborated with several other Boston area
instructors to create Four Wheels Inline Skate School, providing quality
instruction to the Greater Boston area.
Skating has been my exercise of choice for the past 10 years. It’s a
fantastic aerobic workout and isn’t hard on the knees like some other sports.
I’ve also made many long-term friendships as a result. It’s my goal to help my
students derive all the wonderful physical and mental benefits that skating has
to offer.

I took up inline skating several years ago as a fitness activity. I had
learned figure ice-skating as an adult, but decided it was time to engage in a
sport that was more convenient for my lifestyle. Now I put on my inline skates
and roll out the front door of my Lexington, MA home 12 months a year - whenever
the pavement is dry! Skating with the
Inline Club of Boston (ICB) provides me
with great company while in the Boston area.
When traveling to other countries, I have found that skating gives one a
fresh and exciting perspective of foreign places. I have skated in five
countries; the highlight of my inline tourism has been participating in the city
skates organized by the Paris skating clubs.
I would like to introduce others to the sense of freedom and enjoyment
offered by this aerobic activity. I am combining my enjoyment of teaching with
my love of skating to become an instructor of beginning level inline skating.

I started ice and quad skating at a very early age, and eventually graduated to 3000 meter ice speed skating in my early teens. Education, career and family took priority for almost 40 years, until once again skating became a passion. With the purchase of recreational rollerblades, all previous excitement and exhilaration returned with a rush. Since then, new racing skates, equipment, and the Inline Club of Boston racing Team opened another new horizon. Team ICB provided excellent race/physical training, fellowship, and mental skills, allowing for many personal and competitive victories, among those:
- 4th overall Advanced Women’s Niagara Marathon 2001
- In class, 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, last six 87 mile Athens to Atlanta GA road race.
- 2004 First Place overall, in class, Empire Speed Series.
- Gold Medal, Defi de Montréal 2003
- 24 Hour Montréal endurance race with teams from Toronto Inline Skating Club
- First Place, in class, Indoor Short Track Regional Meet, Schenectady NY 2004
- First Place, in class, Disney International Inline Marathon, 2005 & 2007
2007 brought about a strong desire to give back to the skating community. United Skate Schools Group (USSG) instructor training, examination and certification were sought and completed. The intent was to pass on the passion, individual freedom, confidence and health benefits inline skating provides. So let’s put on those skates and helmets and do some miles in the wonderful outdoors…

When I'm not sleeping or obliged to do my day job, you'll most likely find me
skating around town. In other words, I'm an inline skating fanatic!
I joined the Boston skating community only a year ago, but I have been a
regular member of ICB's Tuesday/Wednesday night and Sunday morning skates. I
have also assisted in leading Four Wheels Inline's Sunday beginner skate.
Outside of Boston, I have skated in the Wednesday night and Sunday morning
skates in NYC, and have participated in The Great EsSkate skating event in
Miami.
I simply can't imagine a more enjoyable, beneficial activity. The serene
stress release of effortlessly gliding along the Charles river path; the
exhilaration of jumping off curbs, or stopping with a power slide; the fun of
skating backwards or doing a 360 jump. And all while getting a great workout and
exploring the city!
Equal to my passion for skating, is my desire to share that sense of joy and
empowerment with everyone else. Hopefully, with patience, enthusiasm, and
empathy for beginning skaters, I plan to do exactly that by helping them become
confident skaters.
